So far we've examined games which can be "solved" simply by finding the dominant strategy of one or both players. However, not all games have dominant strategies for either player and so we must have other approaches for these situations.

In some games players will have dominated strategies (note that this isn't the word dominant). A dominated strategies is just the opposite of a dominant strategy. A dominated strategies is never the best strategy while a dominant strategy is always best. If a strategy is dominated it means that there is always a better strategy in any circumstance. If a strategy is dominant there is never a better strategy.

If a player has only two strategies and if one of them is a dominant strategy the other would have to be a dominated strategy. So, dominated strategies are only interesting if players have at least 3 possible strategies.
