Recently the American Medical Association suggested that there are too many physicians in the US and that the number of new physicians needed to be reduced by decreasing the size of Medical School classes. If physicians are to continue earning more, on average, than any other profession entry barriers must remain high.

In New York city, taxis must have a taxi medallion in order to operate legally. This restricts entry into the taxi cab business since only a limited number of medallions are issued.

In most cities it is almost impossible to run a successful nightclub, restaurant or bar without a liquor license. In some cities the number of such licenses is strictly limited. In such cities liquor licenses are important barriers to entry in these industries.
